Field Hockey 2013

Preseason is less than two months away! I hope you have all enjoyed your summer thus far! If you haven't begun to do so already, you need to start getting in shape!!!! DO NOT come to preseason out of shape! The link below is what we expect for you to be doing during your summer workouts, and what we expect you to be able to do when you arrive at preseason:

Important Information:

When should you begin hydrating? PRIOR TO ANY ACTIVITY!!! That does not mean several hours before, but rather the day before! It may be better for you to begin hydrating several days before preseason and keep it going throughout the season!

Why is this important? Hydration is extremely important! Here's why... it can prevent injury! Many pulled muscles result from improper hydration.

Ladies are your sneakers that you intend on wearing to preseason older than 3 months? 5 months? A year? If so, you may want to think about getting a new pair! Sneaker life lasts about 3-6 months of intense wearing. What does this mean? After 3 months of wearing a certain sneaker (especially if play other sports) the gel insoles and additional padding become ineffective. Why is this a problem? This can cause different aches and pains that may not normally occur, possibly in your lower back and shins.

Sneakers today are very expensive! Make sure that if you are buying a new pair that they are appropriate for your feet and not just popular. I made the mistake of wearing one brand of sneakers for years. I always had lower back pain and I couldn't figure out why, until I went to another brand after having my feet and run examined. Sounds like a lot? Not really. All you need to do is go to a running store such as Jenkintown Running Store, Run Around in Rosyln, etc. Try on some sneakers and have them look at your feet (you don't need to buy a pair at these stores! Just find out what kind of sneakers you need).. Do you have low arches? High arches? Are you flat footed? Do you turn your feet inward when you run? Do you need a neutral shoe? Or, do you need a stability shoe? Lots of questions.... find out what kind of shoe you need!

Lastly, if you have a new pair of sneakers, BREAK THEM IN prior to preseason!!!! Otherwise, you may get a lot of blisters.
